Click N Curl | Hair and Whiskers

Hey lovelies!

Today I wanted to tell you about an amazing products that will help you achieve the amazing salon quality blowdry at home! If you love big hair as much as I do, then keep on reading!

Lots of volume using Large and Medium Brushes
About a month ago, the lovely people at the Hair and Whiskers company sent me some new goodies that I was very intrigued to try out! I received their Clip N Curl product which consists of a detachable handle plus multiple brush heads. It’s easy to use as a conventional round brush and produces results consistent with today’s hottest hairstyle trends – body, volume and loose flowing curls.

Start by choosing your size depending on the finished style you are after. For lots of volume go for a large brushes. If you are after lots of body and loose waves then medium brushes are your best bet. If you like loose beach curls and plenty of movement, then opt for the smaller brushes.

3 different sizes from left to right: medium, large and small
Here are the approximate measurements:
  • Large - 3 inches in diameter; best for hair at least 7 inches in length
  • Medium - 2 inches in diameter; best for hair at least 5.5 inches in length
  • Small - 1.5 inches in diameter; best for hair at least 4 inches in length
What I also like about the Click N Curl is that you can dry and style your hair at the same time, which saves a lot of time.

Here I used Small and Medium brushes
The detachable handle easily turns brush heads into rollers, allowing each section of hair to cool and set while you continue styling. This is essential for a long-lasting style.
I prefer using multiple brush sizes for the ultimate result. I use large brushes on the top sections of my layered hair for lots of volume. Then I place medium and / or small brushes on the sides and back of my head for soft waves.

This styling kit will make a lovely Christmas present for any lady.

A 100 of my lucky readers can also benefit from 10% off any purchase over at by using the promo code MADEUPABOUTCURLS10

Let me know what you think, but I'm off now to blowdry my blonde locks :)

November Glossybox

Hello lovelies,

It's that time again when all of us beauty addicts receive our beauty boxes! Although I am not always 100% happy with the contents, I always can't wait to glance inside!
This month I'm very happy with my goodies. The box includes 2 full sized products, 3 sample sized products and a £20 gift card to spend at Best Secret, which is a members-only online fashion shop. Some subscribers received 3 full sized products so, in this instance, I'm a bit miffed.

Lollipops Make up Eye Pencil – Full Size RRP £11.14
This is a black retractable eye liner. The formula appears to be very creamy. Almost too creamy to last all day, so for me it works best when I set it with dark matte eyeshadow. On the waterline it does last a little while, but I have to reapply it throughout the day otherwise it looks patchy.

Burt’s Bees Lip Shine – Full Size 14g  RRP £6.99
Believe it or not, but I've never tried the Burt's Bees products until now. This lip gloss is 100% natural and is enriched with apricot wax. It is not sticky, and has a rather thin consistency, which means that you have to reapply it a few times through the day. The finish is very glossy, the smell is fruity and the taste is sweet. Overall, this gloss will keep your lips hydrated and healthy looking during the cold winter months.

H20+ Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment – Sample Size 8ml
I absolutely love the fact that the formula of this treatment is oil free. If your skin feels dry and dehydrated, then be sure to give this little guy a shot! It minimizes the appearance of fine lines and fills surface lines with moisture. It also contains Vitamins A and E. Unfortunately, the sample size is tiny, so from this amount alone is difficult to see true benefits of this product. However, in the future, I may consider purchasing the full size version.

Monu Skincare Refining Capri Facial Oil -  Sample Size 30ml
Monu skincare products are not new to me, I've already tried their SPA range and own a Monu body oil which I love. This facial oil is specifically designed for oily or spot-prone skin. If used on a regular basis, your skin will look refreshed and revitalised.

This product contains natural citrus oils which have an antibacterial action, grape seed oil which helps to repair broken capillaries, and Camphor which has antiseptic properties.

Until recently I wasn't enjoying very oily creams and oil based products, as they all seem to sit very heavily on my face. I absolutely hated touching my skin and having that greasy feeling. In the last few weeks, I have come across a few products that are considered to be oils, but are totally not oily when applied. Monu facial oil is one of them. It sinks into the skin very fast and provides tonnes of moisture! The fragrance of this oil is slightly citrussy and zingy which is great too.

OGX Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Conditioner - Sample Size 88.7ml
This product is new to me, and my daughter has already set her sights on using this conditioner to match her shampoo from the same range. This conditioner contains precious blend of Argan Oil of Morocco which instantly penetrates the hair shaft, restoring shine and softness while strengthening your hair and making it silky smooth. This renewing formula is free of sulfates and parabens, and is safe for colour-treated hair which is great.

Overall, I'm very happy with this box. I can safely say that I will be using all of the products sent to me this month (unless my 11-year-old nicks that Burt's Bees lipgloss that she has been eyeing up for the last couple of days!!)

Did you like your Glossybox this month? Let me know!

Until next time,

Clarisonic Aria - is it worth it?

Hey gorgeous,

Clarisonic is a brand that I heard a lot about, but always considered that the cleansing brushes are not for me. I've never had any major issues with my skin, and was pretty happy with my skin care regime.

A few months ago it suddenly dawned on me that in 2015 I will hit the dreaded "3-0" and my skincare routine (read: very lazy approach to skincare) hasn't changed in the last 10-15 years at all, and I've started noticing the odd "laughter line" and breakouts on my cheeks.

After careful consideration, checking out countless beauty blogs and watching video reviews from YouTube beauty gurus, I still wasn't quite sold that the Clarisonic was for me. Until one day, one of my regular clients said that what she was using it in preparation for her wedding! After physically seeing the Clarisonic Mia 2 model, I decided to do a little more research.

It was the Clarisonic Aria that seemed like something that I might want, and I was lucky enough to come across which specialises in beauty and skincare. They had an amazing offer on at the time, and I have finally purchased my very own Clarisonic Aria for only £116, as opposed to £155 which is the recommended retail price.

Two days later, the delivery courier was knocking on my door and I couldn't contain my excitement. Here it was - beautiful pink Clarisonic brush with a small sample of the Clarisonic cleanser.

The Aria has 3 different speeds. Depending on your skin type and your needs you can select the appropriate setting to achieve the perfect effect for you.

Another thing that I like about the Clarisonic Aria is that it comes with a drying/charging stand and a charge indicator so you know exactly when it's ready for use.

If you travel a lot, then the USB charging option will suit you just fine. You don't need to worry about having a travel adaptor, just plug your Aria into a USB slot on your laptop and it will be charging for you.

Battery life is quite good too - I get around 2 weeks' use, cleansing once or twice a day for 1 minute at a time.

Its handy timer will let you know exactly when you need to move over to the next area of your face. At first I wasn't sure if 20 seconds per area is enough, but over a few days use I realised that it's 20 seconds for a reason, and it's definitely enough for a good thorough clean.

I've looked at other similar devices which were a lot cheaper that the Clarisonic, but from my experience I knew that subconsciously I would always compare it to the Clarisonic.

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase, and recently lots of people have asked if I changed my skincare routine as my skin looks so much better, smoother and healthier.

Have you tried the Clarisonic? What do you think?

Until next time,
Anna x

Body Shop Vitamin E range

Hey gorgeous!

As the cold autumn months are being horrible to my skin, making it dry and patchy over the last few weeks, I've been on a mission to find something that would give me plenty of hydration without giving me a very greasy appearance. The Body Shop's Vitamin E range sounded like the perfect solution for my skin's cry for help.

I own a few products from this range, and so far I've been loving all of them.

My absolute favourite of all is the new Vitamin E Overnight Serum-In-Oil (£13/28ml), a technical innovation combining the power of a serum and oil to indulge, replenish and recharge skin with moisture overnight. I have been using it religiously for few weeks now, and love the effects so far! It's super hydrating and very lightweight. I noticed that the dry patches on my cheeks have gone, and my oily T-zone doesn't feel overly oily at all.

The second product that I have been enjoying is the Vitamin E Illuminating Moisture Cream (£11 / 50ml). This day-cream is super hydrating and contains illuminating particles that will instantly enhance your skin's radiance. This products is very similar to MAC's Strobe cream, but costs half the price for the same amount. It feels very light on the skin, and sits great under your makeup. Definitely a must-have!

Next is the Vitamin E Face mist (£8.50/100ml). This product has a lovely rose scent. It is instantly refreshing and seemingly helps your makeup stay in place for longer. I use this product multiple times a day in hot weather for instant refreshment and a healthy glow.

Lastly, I would like to mention the Vitamin E Sink In Moisture Masque (£13/100ml). This product is packed with antioxydants and will easily rehydrate your skin in minutes! The consistency is somewhat thin for a masque, but my skin is always left feeling supple, soft and silky-smooth.

This range has been a life-saver for my skin, which is not overly dry, but is more on the combination side with an oily T zone, sensitive cheeks and undereye area.

Overall I could recommend this range for everyone. Your skin will thank you for hydrating it on cold winter days.

Have you tried the Body Shop's Vitamin E range? What is your favourite product from the range?

Until next time,

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Eyeshadows | Review

Hello lovelies,

October saw Urban Decay revealing their latest eyeshadow palette, one that's perfect for daily use as well as for more smoked-out evening looks. The Naked 2 Basics Eyeshadow Palette (£22) is cool-toned, and contains five matte eyeshadows plus one satin eyeshadow.

The palette is the same size as the original Naked Basics, meaning it’s great for travel, being daintily small and sitting snugly in a sturdy case. Oh, and not forgetting the built-in mirror!

Makeup look using the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 palette
The shadow quality is really good, blending well and looking lovely on the eyes. If you are new to makeup, this palette is a great starting point. If you already own quite a few of the neutral palettes then you may want to reconsider getting your hands on this little guy, as there are plenty other palettes that contain similar shadows but are much better value for your money.

Personally, since I got it a month ago, I've used it quite a lot as this palette will easily compliment brighter shades by toning them down, adding depth to lighter shades and blending the shades in the crease.

Is Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 on your Christmas wish list?
Let me know in the comments below :)

Until next time,

October Favourites

Hey lovelies,

It's that time again when I look back at the month that just gone and reflect on my favourites.

Firstly, I would like to apologise to my readers for the lack of posts in October. Unfortunately, a few weeks back I was in a car crash and due to my injuries, aches and pains I was taking a little time off. That absolutely doesn't mean that I've not been obsessing over certain items as per usual!

This month I have a whole lot of favourites so this blog post will be a long one!

1. Last month I fell in love with the new shimmer brick by Bobby Brown in the shade Copper Diamond (£35). This is a lovely soft golden highlight that instantly brightens up your face and adds a touch of sun to the high points of your cheeks. It can also double up as an eyeshadow as it is very pigmented. It looks lovely as an inner corner highlight.

2. Benefit's Majorette Blush has also became a recent favourite of mine and I'm very surprised that I did, as I'm not actually a fan of cream blush! Amazing reviews on YouTube as well as superb packaging literally "made" me buy it, and I haven't regretted it at all. It is easily buildable for a darker shade; you can use it underneath your powder blush to intensify the colour pay off; or you can add just a tad to your cheeks on your "no-makeup" days for a healthy glow look. The staying power of this blush is great too, it didn't "slide" or fade, and therefore, in my opinion, is well worth the £23.50!

3. Over the last month, my MAC 263 synthetic eyeliner brush has become my all time favourite brush. This angle brush is so thin and so precise that if you buy it, it will be hard to believe how you managed without it until now. Create super sharp lines, flicks and cat eyes in the matter of minutes! Although a little pricey at £16.50, it is definitely worth it.

4. Stila Metallic Peach foil finish eyeshadow has been making an appearance in my own makeup as well is on my client's lids more often than before. I absolutely adore this shadow and wish I could wear it every single day. It adds a little twinkle to your eyes and beacomes the main feature of any look. When I wear it, I always get lots of compliments as well as a million questions "WHAT IS IT?" It truly is a gorgeous colour, but perhaps a little overpriced. I bought mine while I was on holiday in Florida for $32 and it also includes a small size all day eyelid primer which aids the adhesion of the shadow and makes them last for ages crease free. In the little box you also get small mixing tray which is quite handy for mixing other things like pigments, glitters etc.

5. Another recent favourite of mine is Joico Colour Endure Sulfate-free conditioner for blonde hair (£11.15 for 300ml). I've heard so many good things about this product from my fellow hairdressing friends that I decided to finally give it a go. I love my hair to have platinum shade of blonde and this conditioner is The THING! I use it once a week and leave it on my hair for about 10 minutes after shampooing. The results are brilliant! If you have blonde hair, and yellow tones is something you are worried about, then definitely check this conditioner out.

6. In the month of October I've been loving MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick (£15.50). It is a beautiful nude/taupe shade which is perfect when paired up with a dark smokey eye. Pair it up with the Spice lipliner by MAC and you will achieve Kylie Jenner's lip look which is so trendy at the moment.

7. My last favourite for the month of October has to be my absolute favourite book of the moment. Miles of Mac by Miles Aldridge (a photographer based in London) and James Gager (the Senior Vice President and Group Creative Director for MAC Cosmetics, La Mer and Jo Malone brands. This book comprises of 200 high quality images by the world famous makeup artists who worked with MAC over the years. At the moment I'm preparing for a very big photoshoot as a part of my Editorial makeup course that I'm working on at the celebrity makeup artist's Lauren Gollan's Academy of Makeup Artistry, so this book has been an amazing inspiration that let my imagination go wild!

So that's it for this month, I hope you enjoyed reading this post and please leave a comment below if you have been loving any of my favourite products too!

Until next time,
Anna x

LUSH Let the Good Times Roll Cleanser | Review

Hello lovelies,

Today I would like to talk about a product that I have been obsessing about over the last few weeks.

From my previous posts you probably know that recently I've decided to reinvent my whole skincare routine. Therefore for the last wee while I've been on a hunt for all sorts of skincare products that I would love so much that they could help me stick to my skincare routine religiously. I'm very ashamed to admit that I'm rather lazy when it comes to the cleanse-tone-moisturise kind of thing..

Coincidentally, over the last few months, I kept wandering in to the Lush stores as natural products that help you care for your body sound very appealing to me.

On one of these trips I discovered the "Let the good times roll" (£6.75 for 100g) gentle face and body cleanser and exfoliator. It smells so delicious, every time I use it I have to battle the urge to taste it as it actually contains POPCORN! I love the stuff so much! This face cleanser is also made of maize flour, glycerine, talc, water, corn oil, polenta, cinnamon powder (yum yum!!), a little perfume and some gardenia extract. It is also packed with minerals and vitamins. None of the ingredients have been tested on animals, which is also very important to me.

It is also very easy to use with minimal mess. Just pop a little square of the stuff in your hand, add a little water and mix into a paste! Work this bad boy into the skin and rinse when you done! Easy peasy, yummy scrummy and a squeaky clean face guaranteed!

Check it out, and perhaps you'll kick yourself for not discovering it earlier!

October Glossybox | Review

Hello lovelies,

yet another beauty box landed on my door step last week and this time it was the Glossybox!

Unfortunately for me, this month was more of a miss than a hit, but I guess they tried their best!

First of all, I received a mini tester of the Rimmel BB cream ( £6.99 / 30ml for the original size). The formula of this BB cream contains Kaolin, Witch Hazel and Salicylic acid for a flawless Matte look. So if your skin is on the oily side and you are not looking for a lot of coverage, then this is something that you should check out, especially because the price is very rather purse-friendly. Personally, I prefer medium-to-full coverage products, so unfortunately I will be giving this BB cream a miss.

The next product that caught my eye was the Ciate Paint Pot ( £9.00 / 13.5ml for the full size) in minty green shade. The packaging is super sweet and girly, but for me that's where my admiration for this product ends. As a beauty therapist myself, I can't remember the last time I used nail polish, as I tend to use Gelish by Nail Harmony (gel polish) which lasts almost 3 weeks chip-free. The colour I received is probably more summery than autumnal, but I'm sure it will make a lovely present for my 11-year old daughter (I will sneak it in her Christmas Stocking!).

To date I have received a few makeup items by So Susan with the latest one being Flutter Mascara ( £14.95 / 4ml Original size). The packaging states that this is an intense carbon-black mascara formulated with hyaluronic (what?!?) spheres to help you achieve the darkest, curviest lashes possible. I don't really have much to say about it yet, as I have not tried it as I already have a gazzilion of other mascaras that are already open. So I will be putting this one to one side in my "spare" stash.

Next I have the Etre Belle Liplift Peel ( £12.95 / 15ml (Original size). This moisturising lip exfoliator claims to define and replenish your lips. The gentle formula removes dead cells refining the skin's surface for perfectly soft lips. This was the product I was delighted to receive, as I am a big fan of dark lipsticks - especially at this time of the year - and I exfoliate my lips on a regular basis. It really is a gentle lip scrub. In fact, it's so gentle that I could hardly notice any visible result on my lips after using it. Truthfully, I'm totally hooked on the organic lip scrubs by Lush. Not only they do a much better job, taste amazing and cost a lot less, but if a tiny bit of it gets into your mouth, you don't feel like you are munching on chemicals. That's my personal opinion, of course.

Everyone who knows me will tell you right away how obsessed I am with perfumes, body mists, body butters and every other product that will make you smell delicious. Although I'm not a big fan of receiving perfume testers in my boxes, I was intrigued to see this tiny bottle in my Glossybox this month. The Yves Rocher Quelques D'Amour fragrance (£33 for 30ml) has left me a little disappointed.  In the heart of this perfume is Damascus rose, guaiac wood and patchouli. So if you are fan of flowery scents then this one is for you. I prefer more sweet, fruity and fresh fragrances (my current favourite is Black Opium by YSL, so you get the drift of my taste..). The lid on this bottle is also a little fiddly, so you have to be careful when opening it, otherwise you will get it everywhere. I did give this perfume a go and applied it as described - on my neck and wrists - but after a little while I couldn't smell it on me at all. So if longevity of the fragrance is important to you, then you may want to look elsewhere.

Nuxe Creme Fraiche de Beaute Mask (£19.50 / 50ml (Original size). "This is a 24hr moisturising mask which hydrates and soothes the skin, instantly reducing discomfort or redness. Skin is left looking radiant and relaxed".
Unfortunately I haven't yet tried this mask as I have a couple of other masks open and needing used, up so I will pop it in the fridge (suggested storage option!) until later.

Overall, the October Glossybox is an OK box: some hits and some misses, but I love the element of surprise in each box, so I will keep my subscription going for now.

What about you? Are you happy with your Glossybox this month? I can't wait until November, as some of the goodies to be included in every subscribers box look great!

Until next time,
